Responsible Gaming
Treat a casino as paid entertainment. The moment it becomes something else, stop.
Eighteen
No one under 18 may gamble, under any licence, anywhere. Operators check age at registration and again before a first withdrawal clears, and an account opened by a minor is closed with winnings removed.
Decide The Budget Before You Open The Lobby
The only money that belongs in a casino is money that can disappear without altering your month. Not rent. Not the food budget. Nothing borrowed, and nothing set aside for something else.
Fix the number in advance. Deciding it during a session, or after a losing run, is how the number stops meaning anything.
Signals
- Stakes drifting above what you intended, session after session
- Returning specifically to recover losses
- Borrowing or selling to keep playing
- Playing privately, or understating how much
- Sleep, work, study or relationships giving way
- Restlessness, irritability or low mood on non-playing days
- Using a session to get away from something rather than to enjoy an hour
One signal may mean little. Three or four at once are worth acting on.
Tools, And When To Set Them
They work best set while things are calm, not in the middle of a bad night:
- Deposit limits — a ceiling per day, week or month that cannot be raised on impulse
- Loss limits — a cap on what a period is allowed to cost
- Session reminders — a clock that interrupts deliberately
- Cool-off — a short lock, 24 hours up to six weeks
- Self-exclusion — a long lock, months through permanent, irreversible inside the chosen period
Children And Shared Devices
Lock the device with a password. Net Nanny and Gamban block gambling sites at machine level, which holds even when a browser setting does not. Nobody under 18 should watch a session or place a bet on your account.
Where Free Help Is
Independent of any operator, free, and confidential:
- BeGambleAware — begambleaware.org
- GamCare — gamcare.org.uk, helpline 0808 8020 133
- Gamblers Anonymous — gamblersanonymous.org
- Gambling Therapy — gamblingtherapy.org, including a self-assessment test
Talking to someone early works better than talking to someone late, and it is a first step rather than a last resort.
The Maths
Every game carries a house edge written into its rules. Across enough rounds the house finishes ahead — arithmetic, not luck. No staking system, no pattern and no hot streak changes that. Play for the hour, not for the outcome.
